DISTRICT Arts is pleased to announce “FUSION,” a juried themed exhibition where the artwork illustrates the joining of two or more “things.”

Imagine a black and white photograph where the artist has hand-painted elements on the image.  Or a combination of dried flowers and watercolors.  How about the real and the surreal in the same piece?

FUSION is more than mixed media.  It is the creative process extended to combine artistic elements in new and unusual ways.

An opening reception with the artists will take place on Saturday, November 2 from 5 – 7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public, and will feature light hors d’oeuvres. The exhibition runs from November 1 to December 1, during which works by the other gallery artists will remain on display.

The works of 20 artists will be featured reflecting a variety of media, styles and interpretations.

All artists residing in the United States are invited to enter the juried exhibition. Any original 2-D work or 3-D work created within the last three years is eligible for entry. Works selected will be on exhibit at DISTRICT Arts in Frederick, MD from November 1 to December 1, 2019.

District Arts LLC will retain 40% from all sales.

Entries Must be Received by end of day September 30.

Exhibition Specific Terms of Entry



A maximum of 3 original works created within the past 3 years may be entered.

Works previously exhibited in a juried show at DISTRICT Arts are not eligible.

2D Works may not exceed 60 inches in width or height, including frame, unless otherwise specified for a particular exhibit.  Artwork must be ready to hang with wire and sturdy enough for normal handling.  3D Works must fit a 12″ square pedestal or be freestanding.

All work must be visibly signed by artist (2D front or back) and include edition numbers (1/1, 2/50, e.g.) for hand-pulled prints, photography or digital art.

Works must be priced for sale.

No Reproductions (Photography and Digital Art must be limited in edition and signed and numbered.)



Cash awards:

  • Best in Show: $500
  • Award of Merit: $250


Entries and Submission Fees


Entries must be submitted online.

Entry fees are $20 for one entry and $5 each for up to two additional entries. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Submit one JPEG image per piece entered. To provide the best image for juror, set pixel dimension to around 1900 pixels on the longest side. File size may be no more than 2 MB.

Images of accepted works may be used at the sole discretion of DISTRICT Arts for promotional purposes including but not limited to the invitation, catalog, web site or on a subsequent year’s prospectus. Image will include attribution whenever possible.  Copyright is retained by the artist. 

Exhibition Schedule


August 1 Online entry open for submissions.

September 30  Deadline for entries.

October 9 Notifications are sent by email. Contact District Arts if you do not receive an email by the end-of-day.

October 25-28 Shipped work and hand-delivered work must arrive at DISTRICT Arts, 15 N. Market Street, Frederick, MD, 21701.

November 1 12-8 p.m. First day of exhibition.

November 2 5-7 p.m. Reception at DISTRICT Arts. Awards presented at 6:00 p.m.

December 1  Exhibition closes.

December  1-3 3-6 p.m. Pick up hand-delivered work. No early pick up. 

By December 7 Shipped work will be sent.
